Help Make a Change
More than 300 wonderful volunteers help to make our mission a reality. These special people, diverse in age, background, and experience, are eager to learn more about Hawaii’s marine environment and how they can share this knowledge with others.
If you’re looking for a way to get involved, we invite you to become a part of the team and experience the difference you make for staff, visitors, and marine life. Whether you are a professional or a homemaker, retired or still working, a teacher or a student, we need your skills and talents. Here are some examples of roles you can fulfill to make a contribution:
Our Behind the Scenes volunteers help keep our exhibits running and our grounds beautiful. Aquarist Assistants help care for the Aquarium’s diverse aquatic collection. They routinely maintain exhibits and feed the animals. Our Garden volunteers help with grounds keeping of our native Hawaiian plants and lawn areas, which make the Aquarium an enjoyable place for our members and visitors.
Aquarium Educators and Docents are ambassadors, representing the Waikīkī Aquarium by engaging with visitors of all ages and backgrounds through one-on-one conversations and small group presentations. Our Educators inform visitors about marine animals and the environment at our Outdoor Reef Touch Tank exhibit, our Monk Seal exhibit and inside the Aquarium Galleries.
Our Gift Shop volunteers help our visitors find the perfect present for a loved one or for themselves. Special Events Volunteers are needed for our numerous events such as our summer concert series, Ke Kani o Ke Kai, and others throughout the year. Help us with set-up or man an educational or drink booth. Enjoy our fun events while making a difference.
Throughout the year, the Waikīkī Aquarium partners with organizations around the state to host beach and invasive algae clean-ups. You can also help with a service project at the Aquarium.
